The new regulations of the Credit Card Act of 2009 went into effect on February 22, 2010. Many of the new regulations will have a affirmative outcome on consumers as credit card issuers will now have to measure up to stiffer rules as regards to such things as raising interest rates on existing balances, changing payment due dates and other questionable practices. Nevertheless, consumers need still be wary because credit card company profits are down due to the lingering recession that has more individuals using cash instead of plastic along with the new rules.

The demand for debt advice in the UK is soaring beyond manageable levels. In the year leading up to July 2009, the Government’s free debt advice service witnessed an increase of 28% in demand for its services. Unfortunately, it was unable to meet that demand, with a quarter of its agencies turning people away or financially struggling consumers waiting over a month for a session with a debt advisor.
